Monday was Derek's birthday! Derek asked for a dutch oven, so I decided to throw a dutch oven party for him. We did a joint birthday party with our friend Andy. Their birthdays were only a few days apart. I made a peach cobbler, and Heather made a blueberry cobbler. It was fun just to get together with lot's of friends to celebrate. Here is Andy and Derek acting like their blowing out the candles (it was to windy and we couldn't get the candles lit).
The night of Derek's birthday we took advantage of the sweet birthday deals around here and went out to eat to get the 50% off deal. This is us right before we went out to eat.
Holland Tulip Festival:
Last Friday we went to Holland, MI to the tulip festival. They have over 6 million tulips...unbelievable!!! There were a lot of dutch activities and dutch stores. I felt like I was actually in Holland. We met up with some of our good friends and neighbors the Topham family.
Brooklynn didn't want to stay still for pictures, but at least Lincoln was able to hold her down for a few seconds.
Garden:
Student housing has garden plots and we are attempting our first garden. Hopefully we see the fruits of our labors and get some fresh produce out of it. When we go work in the garden Brooklynn loves to climb the dirt hills, eat the dirt (ewww), and loves when we find a worm for her. If she could she would be outside all day!
Mothers Day Picture
I'll end this post with Brooklynn, she is just so darn cute and growing up way to fast!

Loving the garden! You'll have to let us know how it goes. By the way, sorry we missed the birthday celebration--I thought the email said the 16, not the 6!
Happy Birthday, Derek! Brooklynn is growing up so fast!
The cobbler was good times! By the way, Chop House is definitely worth it...
Janel, you have the cutest family ever!!! Happy Birthday Derek!!! Good luck on the garden, and we will definitely see you in July! Can't wait!
I love the double pigtails! Brooklyn has got to be one of the cutest little girls ever!!
That is so cool that you can rent out a garden spot. Good luck growing veggies!!
Happy late birthday to Derek! That's fun you guys get to try a garden out. We're doing one also so it will be fun to reap the benefits! If it works that is! =) Love that picture of you and Brooklynn too.
Happy brithday Derek! There are not many things better than dutch oven peach cobbler. You are looking so good Janel. I can't believe how fast Brooklynn is growing up.
So...you totally just went to my hometown! What did you think of Holland, MI?! Did you get to see any dutch dancers? I used to be one! I'm so sad I couldn't be in Holland when you came. I hope all is going well and good luck with your garden! We just planted one too.
happy birthday derek! if you ever want to break your dutch ovens in on a camping trip, i know another family who's dying to go... and we also have dutch ovens. we can make a real party out of it.
I just saw Missy's comment and figured I'd throw out the same idea. We haven't done anything with our dutch ovens here yet but I am itchin' to get back in the habit of making all sorts of tasty meals and desserts. :) Glad your cobbler turned out well!
That is so awesome you get to garden. We are trying with a few potted plants outside our front door. Caleb LOVES watering and "tending" to the tomatoes that are actually growing! Fresh produce for "free" minus the work of course lol. Good job on that race by the way, I'm actually going to run my first race since we got married this summer! I'm' running a 5k next week (it will be slow I'm sure) and then the 4th of July 5k as well. I would LOVE to go the tulip festival. Brooklynn is precious!!
Ahh little Brooklynn isn't so little anymore. I can't wait to play with her, only a few more weeks til I'll be seeing you guys! I love ya!!
Hi Janel,
I'm just jumping back into life after a month of wonderful craziness with my family. I really enjoyed catching up with your blogs. Congratulations on completing the 1/2 maration . . . that's so impressive. Great photos of you, Derek and Brooklyn. Hopefully I'll be getting some photos posted of the last crazy few weeks. Love ya, Sandra
Wow, Janel it has been a long time since I have seen you and talked to you. I stumbled across your blog and you have a sweet little family. I am starting my 4th year teaching 6th grade and coaching cheerleading. Great to see that you are doing wonderful.
